For the current cycle, we are considering books with a date of first publication between November 1, 2024, and October 31, 2025. Date of first publication means the very first appearance of the First Edition of this book, whether in print or eBook formats.
November 1, 2025 is the last day that books will be accepted for consideration in the 2026 UP Notable Book List.
The 2026 U.P. Notable Book List will be announced on January 2, 2026.
- All reading levels are of interest: Adult, Young Adult, Middle Grade, and Children’s lit
- Books which are gauged to have “U.P. interest” will have the highest priority according to how many of the scoring criteria that they fill:
- Subject matter concerns the U.P.
- Categories: memoir, biography, history, fiction, romance, genre fiction, humor, poetry, photo books, graphic novels, winter sports, hunting/fishing/tourism,
- Ethnographic stories about immigrants, indigenous peoples, yooper culture, and Scandinavian culture are encouraged
- Author is living in / was born in / lived several years in — the U.P.
- Subject matter concerns the U.P.
UPPAA membership is neither required nor suggested to submit to U.P. Notable–it will not factor into the judging. The selection is meant to be wide open to all authors of interest, regardless of affiliations.
To be eligible for U.P. Notable Books List, we must receive bound, printed copies. Advance Reading Copies (ARCs) are acceptable as long as the final publication date falls within the aforementioned range of dates.
U.P. Notable Classics are books whose date of first publication is 2015 or earlier. Interested readers may nominate titles by contacting upnotable@uppaa.org.
